Red Fox Squirrel Nymph

A classic searching nymph that suggests a wide range of aquatic insects — including mayfly nymphs, caddis larvae, and even small stoneflies. The beadhead adds weight and a natural jigging action, allowing it to reach feeding depth quickly.

History: Originally tied by American angler Dave Whitlock in the 1960s, the Red Fox Squirrel Nymph used the natural blend of red fox squirrel fur for a buggy, lifelike body. The beadhead version gained popularity in the 1980s–90s as weighted nymphs became standard, combining Whitlock’s classic pattern with modern presentation needs.
