The Quill Gordon dry fly imitates one of the earliest spring mayflies, Epeorus pleuralis, which hatches in March through May in the Eastern U.S. It features a dark gray body and mottled wings, mimicking the dun stage of this important insect.

History:
Created by Theodore Gordon in the late 1800s—often considered the father of American dry fly fishing—the Quill Gordon is one of the first specifically American dry flies. It’s traditionally tied with a stripped quill body, upright mallard wings, and dun hackle. A foundational pattern in Catskill fly fishing.
