The McGinty is an attractor dry fly that loosely imitates a bumblebee or other terrestrials with its yellow and black banded body. While it may occasionally pass as a flying ant, it’s primarily used to trigger reflex strikes.
History:
The McGinty was created in the late 1800s by Charles McGinty and popularized by John McGinty of Chicago. It gained traction as an attractor in both trout and warmwater fishing, especially during summer months. The fly’s flashy peacock herl and bright colors made it a favorite before more precise hatch-matching became common.
