H&L Varient

The H&L Variant (also known as the House & Lot Variant) is a high-floating dry fly that imitates a variety of mayflies and caddisflies in an impressionistic style. Its white calf tail wings and heavily hackled body make it ideal for turbulent water or fast riffles where visibility and buoyancy are critical.

History:
The H&L Variant originated in the Eastern U.S. in the 1930s, named after a popular fishing pool on the Beaverkill River called “House and Lot.” It became a staple Catskill-style fly for pocket water and continues to be favored by anglers who need a durable, easy-to-see attractor that also matches general hatch behavior.
